Helpful tips when traveling in Spanish Speaking Countries

My mother is handicapped

Mi madre es discapacitada (hard to pronounce — Andre tried three times before Caroline belted it out and the guard let us take our golf cart to star quality parking).

Croaker

Corvina

I didn’t order this

I lost my hat

Perdi mi sombrero

When I lost my favorite baseball cap after a day at the beach, I was determined that we must be reunited. I hiked back to the beach armed with a photo I found of my hat and my handy Google Translate and the scenario played out flawlessly instead of my usual discombobulated attempt at explaining what I need. I gleefully skipped back to the house, expecting everyone to congratulate me for my effort (when I left

Andre said I would never find it). I marched in triumphantly and nobody even remarked as I waved my hat but at least I felt on tops because I had my hat back.

My father is crazy

Mi padres esta loco

No explanation needed if its coming from my children

Don’t be grumpy with me

No seas grunion conmigo

I only used this with Andre

Please Cook Eggs More

Por favor cocina mas huevos

Very Essential — although I actually stopped eating eggs on this trip as my nieces explained dissecting chic embryos at college and I’m not even queasy

a picture says so much

#1

What cannot be cured, must be endured.  In Michigan that means the weather.  Get outside, trust me, it does make it better.

#2

Instead of texting, meet up with a friend.  If that's not possible, make a phone call.  Voices are amazingly comforting.

#3

Find your humor.  You need it in life.
