Yes . . . it is the gray Midwestern winter daze (apt word because it truly is a funky state of being) when we all have to pull out our happy lights and up our doses of antidepressants.

I have one word for you, my fellow Michiganders. Perseverance. We can do this.

My tips/tricks for survival

Get outdoors even though it's freezing cold, unless it is raining like today because the snow is mushier and as the day folds into night, more slippery for sure.

Take Vitamin D (this is truly legit)

Listen to a funny Podcast, YouTube video . . . something that gives you the sense of life out there.

I know it sounds a bit crazy but lavender Epsom salt really does make you feel (and smell) better.

Go to Rite Aid and buy yourself a new lipstick or if you're a guy -- whatever you guys to make yourself feel better for under $15. (Don't do this every day, though, RiteAid really adds up.

Do 5 minutes of something like jumping jacks, push ups, squats.

Listen to loud, upbeat music -- No Smiths or Simon and Garfunkel (unless it's Cecilia) right now. I know, whatever, I get that this genre ages me but I'm getting old(er).

DON'T look at other people's FaceBooks, especially if one of your best friend's is yachting with her very wealthy friends. I'm not making that up, btw, but my friend has the good sense not to post that shit.

Okay -- well, that seems like an adequate amount to get you started.

What cannot be cured, must be endured.  In Michigan that means the weather.  Get outside, trust me, it does make it better.

Instead of texting, meet up with a friend.  If that's not possible, make a phone call.  Voices are amazingly comforting.

Find your humor.  You need it in life.
